Homeschooling at Disney
Yesterday was our first “regular” school day after taking a week long break to go to Disney World. While Shammy was sad to miss on regular schooling and his robotics class, he loves Disney enough to be ok with it. I did have to nix his suggestion of bringing some workbooks along but we did try to have some educational fun while at the parks.
Disney parks have a lot of educational opportunities, while the trip was meant for fun and not a field trip, we did manage to squeeze in some learning. We visited Rafiki’s Conservation area at Animal Kingdom where he touched a snake, looked at an assortment of insects and reptiles and played the “poop game”. We traveled around the world at Epcot where he got a stamp at every country and learned how his name is written in Chinese, Japanese and Arabic and learned about how to design a car and what factors affect its efficiency, power and responsiveness.
I didn’t try to do all of the educational stuff this time. For example, we had done “The Land” on our last trip so I didn’t feel like we had to do it again just a few months later.
We are now back and I feared that we would have trouble getting back to our routine. I shouldn’t have worried. Despite me being sick with a severe cold and not feeling in the mood we have been able to pick up right where we left off without missing a beat.
