Ostara Resolution
I seem to have unconsciously been censoring myself on social media and it took me years to notice.
7 years ago my friend’s list was predominantly Pagan because most of my friends were in the craft but as I moved away from my circles to a new town, got married and had children we started to drift away. Since I regularly clean out my friend’s list of people that I haven’t had any interactions with in the past year that meant that over the last few years my friend’s list has evolved to have more breastfeeders and homeschoolers, most of which are Christian.
Their religion is not a problem to me but it took a visit back to my Pagan roots by attending my first Pagan festival in 5 years to realize that I was no longer being as open about my spirituality on the internet. Part of it was because there were few Pagans left on my list that could relate but also I guess that I didn’t want to cause trouble with the Jesus freaks on my list who I bond over parenting but I fear may cause drama on my page over my religion.
For somebody that used to take pride of not being in the broom closet, I’ve had a foot in it for several years now. I don’t deny who I am, if asked I won’t lie. Now I just need to work on being more open about it and not censor myself for fear of losing a friend (that wouldn’t be a true friend anyway if a difference in religion would make them unfriend me).
So on this Spring Equinox day I hope to start being more open about Paganism on social media and whoever doesn’t like it can scroll over, unfollow or unfriend.
If you are not familiar with Paganism/ Wicca or only know what Hollywood and TV tell you about it, there is nothing to be scared of. I don’t worship the devil, sacrifice babies and you don’t have to worry about being cursed if you piss me off. I am just a tree hugging nature worshipper that abides by a moral code of Harm None.
If you are interested in learning more I will happily share links with you but I won’t push my beliefs down your throat just like I hope that you won’t do the same to me.
So happy Ostara/ Spring Equinox to my Pagan friends and happy first day of Spring to everyone else.
