9/11 and Preschool
We never forget.
I wanted to recognize 9/11/01 in our homeschooling but I didn’t want to jump into exposing my preschooler to terrorism, death and destruction just yet. In future years I can explain in detail why we commemorate today but at 4 years old and very sensitive I don’t want to place that burden on him. While there are many resources and lesson plans on the internet about the day, they all seemed geared for older grades. There are some printable coloring pages but my kid hates coloring on demand.
So we are celebrating Patriot Day in different ways instead. We are talking about being proud of our country, what it stands for and being part of a greater community. Shammy loves writing thank you notes so we may even write a thank you notes to firefighters and mail it to our local station.
How do you approach the subject with your preschooler?
